Local Pages for 19 Oshawa Communities

Oshawa's housing is genuinely old for this part of Ontario. Of 66,630 occupied dwellings, 15,700 date from 1960 or before and 23,330 from 1961 to 1980 — close to three in five built before 1981. North of Taunton Road that flips completely. What each era did to the garage opening is set out on the neighbourhood page.

Why homeowners choose us

Diagnosis first, then the parts that actually failed

A door that will not rise has lost its counterbalance, a lift cable or its drive, and guessing between the three wastes the visit. In Oshawa the question widens further, because a 1920s detached garage off a Central side drive, a semi in Stevenson sharing a wall with the next unit, and a wide two-car door on a narrow Windfields frontage behave nothing alike. The structure gets confirmed before any part is ordered.

  • Useful booking detailsPhotos, the symptom, and the neighbourhood help identify the door layout before a visit is arranged.
  • Written details before we beginA clear explanation of the fault and the work required, by email, before anything starts.
  • Measured to suit the openingOpenings in the older south and central grid are often narrower than anything a modern catalogue assumes, so clear width, headroom above the opening and side room beside the track are measured on site.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Oshawa neighbourhoods do you serve?
There is a dedicated page for each of the 19 Oshawa communities covered here, across all five forward sortation areas from L1G to L1L. That takes in Downtown Oshawa, Central, O'Neill, McLaughlin, Vanier, Stevenson, Lakeview, Farewell, Donevan, Eastdale, Centennial, Northglen, Samac, Pinecrest, Windfields, Taunton, Kedron, Columbus and Rural Oshawa. Open the service area index to find yours.
How do I book a repair or installation?
By phone, or through the booking form on this site. Name your Oshawa neighbourhood, say what the door is actually doing, and give the windows that suit you. Form requests are read by a person, who replies by email with availability and the next step.
Do you offer same-day service in Oshawa?
Same-day appointments are often possible for urgent faults where the schedule still allows it: a door stuck open overnight in Donevan, a broken spring in O'Neill, a car shut in before an early shift. Say plainly in the form that the door cannot wait, and the reply will state honestly what can be reached that day instead of promising a window that does not exist.
My garage is old and the opening looks narrow. Is that a problem?
It is the single most common condition in this city and it is workable, but it has to be measured. Of Oshawa's 66,630 occupied dwellings, 15,700 were built in 1960 or before and 23,330 between 1961 and 1980, so roughly three in five predate 1981. Openings from those eras are frequently narrower than current subdivision standard, and headroom above the opening and side room beside the vertical track decide what can be fitted at all. All three get measured before anything is ordered.
Do you work on detached rear garages and laneway structures?
Yes, and they are a large share of the work in the older south and central grid. A detached structure has its own framing, its own header and often its own electrical supply, so the building gets checked before a torsion system is trusted to it. The City treats a detached garage as an accessory structure under Zoning By-law 60-94, with size in most cases limited to the smallest of eight per cent of lot area, half the house's lot coverage, or 60 square metres. Note rear or laneway access in the form so the approach can be planned.
Does Oshawa's heritage conservation district affect a garage door?
Only in one place, and not a residential one. Oshawa has a single Heritage Conservation District, South Field at the Oshawa Executive Airport, designated in 2021 as the city's first, covering the wartime Canteen and Stores buildings, the No. 10 Building, Airmen's Park and the Sabre jet. Separately, more than 40 properties are designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and the City keeps a municipal register, so confirm a property's status with the City before changing anything the street can see.
My house is only a few years old. Should I be claiming warranty instead?
Quite possibly, and it is better to hear that first. Windfields is 56 per cent built between 2011 and 2016, Taunton 37 per cent, and both have active construction alongside the Kedron and Columbus Part II Plan areas. A builder-installed door or opener may still be covered by the builder or by Tarion, so read the warranty paperwork before arranging third-party work.
Do you work on all garage door and opener makes?
Yes. That covers sectional steel, insulated and carriage-style doors, older one-piece and tilt-up doors still found on pre-1960 garages in the south end, and chain, belt and screw-drive operators, including the builder-fitted packages that came as standard through the Pinecrest, Taunton and Windfields build-outs.
Is there a fee to submit a booking request?
No. The form sends a request and nothing else. A reply comes back by email with availability and the next step before any work is arranged.
